The Zhongda Fabric Market in Guangzhou is the biggest marketplace for fabrics and garment accessories in southern China. Thousands of wholesalers and manufacturers make it a great place to source materials for the clothing production.

While the marketplace is commonly called the Zhongda Fabric Market, you will not only get all kinds of fabrics there, but also lots of garment accessories (e.g. buttons, beads, rhinestones, zipper, ribbons, sew-on patterns and many more).

Name Origin

Zhongda (中大) is the abbreviation for the nearby Sun Yat-sen University (学, Zhongshan Daxue), which also gave the name to the metro station under Xingang West Road (Chinese: 新港西路) and Lixin Road (Chinese: 立新路) and the Zhongda bus station.

How to go there by subway?

The Zhongda metro station can be reached from Guangzhou Railway Station or from Guangzhou South Railway Station via line 2 to Changgang and from there just two stations with line 8. From the Airport or from Guangzhou East Railway Station you can take line 3 and change to line 8 at Kecun. (Subway Map).

Zhongda Fabric Market Map

The wholesale markets are in and around the triangle of Xingang West Road in the north, Dongxiao South Road in the south-west, and Ruikang Road in the east. As there are many wholesale markets on Ruikang Road, it is the best place to start your search for fabrics and accessories.

Zhongda Fabric Market Opening Hours

First of all, there are 18 independent market buildings. Furthermore, not all the shops follow the opening hours of the building. As a result, not every wholesaler will have the same opening hours.

This is a general guideline: The markets are open every day, Monday to Sunday (except for Chinese New Year). Most markets are open between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm.

We recommend you to visit the markets from the morning till the early afternoon. In the late afternoon and evening (4 to 7 pm) the area is really getting busy and there is always traffic jam on Ruikang Road, because hundreds of people want to leave with their cars and bikes full of fabric.

  1. Hi, do we get chemical lace borders, 3D laces and accessories in ZhongDa market or at nearby markets? I am planning to visit Guangzhou. Please help me!

    1. Yes, you can get laces at the Guangzhou International Textile City, which is the most known market in that area and at nearby markets. All markets in this area specialize in fabrics and accessories. I can’t tell details, you need to look around a bit and compare the quality and price at different stores.

  2. Hi! For a project I am gathering some information about this fabric market. Can you please tell me if they sell patches (lips, Paris and other patches) in one of the shops there? and if so, what is the name of this shop? Another question which is probably kind of hard to answer is if you know where these shops get their fabric? I am particularly looking for the origin of the 90% polyester 10% elastane mixture. I hope that you can tell where these fabrics are (in my case) knitted.

    1. Hi Danielle, for the patches I would recommend you to visit the accessories area of Guangzhou International Textile City. You can find patches at several shops there. Regarding the origin of the fabrics they offer, some shops are owned by fabric manufacturers and the others by wholesalers. In both cases, most of the fabrics are from fabric mills in Guangzhou. The markets and factories are currently closed, because of the Chinese new year holidays.

  3. Hi there, Does anyone know if this market is strictly for trade only? I wish to go myself for some personal projects so will only be wanting small quantities of fabric.

    1. Hello Abi, the markets have a strong focus on trade, but buyers also need sample quantities, so you can also buy lower quantities. But if you don’t buy one roll of fabric, the price per meter/yard will, of course, be higher. You can also go to the Highsun (Haiyin) Fabric Center, which focuses more on retail quantities. There are also tailors in the building so that customers can buy fabric and let the tailors make clothing from it.

  4. Hello I am looking for yarn. Can any one suggest me the place or market to buy yarn for carpets in this area or any where in Guangzhou.

    1. There are two on Yijing Road, which is at the southern end of the markets: Jindu Hotel and Pearl River international Hotel (same place as Pearl River Int’l. Textile City).

    1. As far as I know, there are no places which are famous for left-over stock fabric. Most wholesalers or manufacturers have some fabric on stock, but it depends on the company and the fabric.

  5. Hi, I would like to do fabric printing. Can you suggest me where is the best market? I have already brought the design, just wanna print them out on any satin pieces. Can you please advise me? Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi Anis,
I am sorry, I don’t know any market, where you can get fabrics printed. We either buy printed fabrics or work with printing factories, who create print samples or print entire fabric rolls for us.

  6. Hello.
Is this not a good time to go to buy Fabric as I was informed that most of the things are winter wears and thick material.
    Thank you

    1. Hello Siti,
Don’t worry! While the products change in the clothing wholesale markets, there is no real change in the fabric markets. Some manufacturers develop or produce their clothing several months before the season, so thick fabrics are also needed in the summer and thinner fabrics are also available in the winter. The wholesalers usually specialize in a certain type of fabric and for that type, they offer some thicker and some thinner fabrics. Have a good trip!

  7. Good Morning
I’m from Brazil. I would like to know at which market I can buy quantities of different fabrics for women’s fashion.

  8. Hi Simon,

Please advise me which markets to visit in order to buy lace fabric per the bundle. Thanks.
